Commitment to Philanthropy and Community Engagement Recognized by CoVaBIZ Magazine

PRA Group is proud to be recognized as a “Social Responsibility Champion” by CoVaBIZ Magazine, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy, volunteerism and community engagement. According to CoVaBIZ, the award is given to organizations that “exemplify how stewardship-focused leadership can shape the future of our region as we enter a new period of extraordinary change.” In conjunction, Elizabeth Kersey, who leads PRA Group’s philanthropic giving as senior vice president of communications and public policy, was named to CoVaBIZ’s list of “150+ Most Influential People in Coastal Virginia.” The honors were published in the magazine’s March/April 2025 issue. 

PRA Group is headquartered in Norfolk, Va., and since its founding in 1996, it has been a company priority to support nonprofits that make a difference in the communities where we live and work. As a global leader in the nonperforming loan industry, PRA Group has thousands of employees across the world. In 2023 and 2024 combined, the company donated more than $1.94 million to support more than 160 nonprofits across the Americas, Europe and Australia.  

The company’s commitment to philanthropy and community engagement includes a matching gift program for employees – up to $2,500 per employee per year – to amplify the impact of charitable giving. Employees also receive eight paid volunteer hours per year to encourage volunteerism and support 501(c)(3) organizations. Over the past two years, hundreds of employees have used their volunteer time off (VTO) to dedicate more than 5,000 hours to nonprofits across the globe.  

Global Reach, Local Touch 

PRA Group partners with dozens of Coastal Virginia-focused nonprofits, rallying employees to organize donation drives to collect food, books, school supplies and holiday greeting cards throughout the year. Last year, U.S. employees launched an effort to pay down school lunch debt, benefiting students in the Virginia Beach City Public School system. Globally, colleagues in Canada and Europe organized end-of-year charitable giving campaigns to ensure families in need had a wonderful holiday season.  

United Way of South Hampton Roads honored PRA Group with the “Bronze Trailblazer” award in 2022, 2023 and 2024 for coordinating a successful company-wide giving campaign with participation from more than 60% of employees. Over three years, the generosity of our colleagues raised more than $1 million for United Way.  

The company united its global workforce through wellness and philanthropy in 2024 with the semiannual Global Charity Pedometer Challenge. More than 820 individuals on 160 teams participated across 14 countries, resulting in more than 265 million steps walked – the equivalent of 126,998 miles or 204,387 kilometers. Through this initiative, more than $7,000 was raised for 15 nonprofit organizations. 

The Global Charity Pedometer Challenge also benefitted one of the company’s most unique environmental initiatives, the Forest of PRA Group. Since 2021, PRA Group has partnered with Tree-Nation to plant 935 trees in areas of greatest need worldwide, offsetting 160 tons of CO2.
