PRA Group Employees Contribute Nearly $300,000 to United Way
Norfolk, Va., January 19, 2021 — PRA Group employees donated nearly $300,000 to communities in need through the company’s 2020-21 United Way campaign. As the COVID-19 pandemic leaves millions of people struggling with food insecurity, homelessness, and unemployment, the United Way’s programs continue to make a lasting difference.
“PRA is proud of its long-lasting partnership with the United Way,” said Pete Graham, chief financial officer of PRA Group, Inc. and Board Member for the United Way of South Hampton Roads. “Our employees and their commitment to our communities are a powerful example of how we can join together to help meet the increased needs caused by the pandemic.”
PRA launched its annual campaign last August with a “drive through” donation drive at the company’s Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. The contact-less donation drive benefited ForKids, Inc., a nonprofit serving children and families experiencing homelessness in Hampton Roads. PRA collected more than $7,000 worth of household goods to support families transitioning out of homelessness.
In prior years, PRA hosted regular events to help employees learn more about United Way and how their pledges would make a concrete impact for people across the country. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented in-person events or gatherings, so PRA’s Events and Community Engagement team found creative ways to engage employees while keeping safety top of mind.
In October and November, the team produced a virtual Speaker Series featuring panelists from the United Way of South Hampton Roads, the United Way of Virginia Peninsula, the United Way of Central Alabama, and the United Way of West Tennessee. The Series also included participants from partner organizations such as Smart Beginnings of Virginia Peninsula, Mission United of South Hampton Roads and the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson, Tennessee.
The company introduced a promotion called “Thanks a Latte” where employees received a Starbucks gift card for completing their United Way pledge. Toward the end of the campaign, employees who had already pledged a donation, recorded “Why I Give” testimonials to encourage their fellow colleagues.
As PRA employees have contributed to this critical cause, they’ve supported thousands of people by providing access to food, housing, literacy, financial assistance, and much more. To learn more about the United Way, visit here.
